Jaakko Taavila is a finnish Cinematographer based in Vienna, Austria.

While studying Cinematography at the Film Academy of Vienna (Filmakademie Wien), Jaakko has frequently been working as a DP in narrative and experimental short films, investigative documentaries, music videos, and commercials around Europe. 

​

Since his early teens and long before being accepted to the Film Academy, Jaakko had already gotten into directing diverse short films. This, to be sure, helped lay the foundations for his firm understanding of story-based cinematography: the art of telling a story and creating worlds with the right choice of composition, production design and creative lighting - choices that serve the artistic intention of the film.

As of today, Jaakko has managed to gather experience on larger film sets (feature films, TV series, commercials), working in various departments including camera, grip and light departments.

In his most recent experimental work, Jaakko is actively exploring new types of visual language.

Inspired by other art forms, he is not afraid to push his cinematography towards the abstract with the aim of finding new ways of visual expression.
